3 struggles + 3 moments of joy in Spring 2021

It’s May, 2021! 现在是二零二一年五月了!

3 joyful moments

  • Started celebrating AAPI Heritage Month! I highlighted Chloé Zhao by doing an activity that I’ll share more details.

  • Attended Matt Coss’s workshop and am experimenting strategies to encourage students to have more organic interpersonal communication while producing longer sentences.

  • Seeing students being creative and playful with Chinese and freshmen who I’m meeting in person for the first time starting to wave at me and say 你好 to me in the hallway!

3 struggles

  • Emotionally difficult to process the end of 12th graders’ Chinese learning journey at Beaver. Feeling incomplete, unpolished and guilty of not doing enough for them.

  • Hearing students’ giving pitches in Chinese reading off their scripts with not so great pronunciation.

  • Wishing we had more time to rehearse and practice made me wonder what it means to do presentational speaking communication
